Implementing Initiatives at National Level:

This level of activities is aimed at the development of :
1) Irrigation Sector Policy,
2) Legal Changes to Water Code, WUA Law and Law on Local self Government,
3) Support for formation of Professional Irrigation Association.

The purpose of the National Irrigation Policy is to ensure that the irrigation sector development is in line with and fully supports the productive and sustainable development of the agriculture, with specific attention to boosting the income opportunities for the water users and farmers, with a view to reducing the rural poverty in Armenia.

The National Irrigation Policy was approved by the MCA-Armenia Governing Council on December 16, 2009.

The Legal changes that were proposed in September 2010 are now under the revision of State Committee of Water Economy.

The endeavors to establish the Professional Irrigation Association are still in the process of discussion. More news to come.
